When I Am Among The Trees
When I am Among the Trees
I began photographing the Boardman Tree Farm in 2009. Comprised of 25,000 acres of hybrid poplar trees along a 6-mile stretch of I-84, it was a magical spot along an otherwise monotonous section of highway. In 2016, the tree farm was sold to a dairy and an agricultural products company so the land is now filled with cows, corn and potatoes. It took several years to clear the land but as of my last visit in March, it is completely gone. Even though it was a very ‘un-natural’ forest, it was a source of peace, inspiration and paraphrasing Mary Oliver, these trees have saved me many times over the years.
And they call again, “It’s simple,” they say, “and you too have come into the world to do this, to go easy, to be filled with light, and to shine.” - Mary Oliver -
